The Clinical Commissioning Policy regulates the NHS provision of prosthetic knee components and this decision marks the beginning of the implementation of a policy change for MPKs. As such, MPKs will now be funded through Specialised Commissioning by NHS England and will soon be available through Rehabilitation Service Centres to amputees who meet the criteria set out in the policy.

With hundreds of amputees living in England with above knee limb loss and hip disarticulation, this decision is envisaged to help improve the quality of limb loss rehabilitation for above knee amputees.
