Workshop Manager

An exciting post has arisen for candidates with a technical or production planning background to work for Steeper Group in our prosthetic limb manufacturing service based at Nottingham City Hospital.

Situated on the large hospital campus, the Nottingham mobility centre is central to the successful rehabilitation of users who were born without or have lost a limb.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of technicians to manufacture, service, and repair prosthetic limbs. This is a busy but supportive working environment with a team of 6 technicians and 8 clinicians, with clinics running daily. The role forms a key part of the management team working closely with the clinicians and wider NHS multidisciplinary team.

The position of workshop manager requires a motivated person who is well organised, able to think proactively to effectively plan and schedule workload to ensure capacity meets the demands of the service.

Key requirements:

  • Experience as a prosthetic technician or similar working environment
  • Be able to demonstrate a flexible and positive approach in supporting the clinical team in achieving optimal outcomes for the patient.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people and think quickly to meet the needs of this demanding service
  • Knowledge of key health and safety and quality assurance programs
  • Good IT skills
  • Confidence to develop and inspire team members through established training programs


  • Experience of managing production in a similar environment
  • Management experience
  • Experience with X3 or other ERP systems an advantage
  • Experience of training and mentoring
  • Knowledge of production planning software and systems
  • Experience with stock control
